So while in line for a ride in Oceanpark HK, my sister mentioned that according to her friend there is a Harry Potter-themed cafe that recently opened in Mongkok! We agreed to have dinner there but upon arriving to the place there’s no available table for a group of 10 so we decided that my brother and I (he’s a huge Potterhead too) stay to have dinner there and the rest of the group go eat somewhere else. They know how much we love Harry Potter so they understood, hahaha!
We had difficulty finding it because it was nowhere near the MTR station. To save time, we decided to take a cab from Mongkok station to Yin Chong St. (about $40 HKD). The Prosper Commercial Building is a bit hard to find because it was a dark alley with no visible label outside.
The place is quite small and to be honest I expected a bit more but it’s cute and made me feel like I was dining in a cafe in Hogsmeade. The paintings and floating candles in the ceiling reminded me of the Hogwarts Castle.
The place was packed when we arrived so I had a hard time taking decent pictures without having to disturb the other customers.
The place has got some novelty items you can borrow and take pictures with. I got the Elder Wand of course. 😉
Of course, the cafe needs to have the famous platform it named itself for:
We almost didn’t go because when I tried to search for reviews they said there are no English menu which made it hard to order. Thank goodness they already have one! The meals are pricey (even pricier than the meals in Disneyland!) and customers are required to order at least $80 each. But we went here for the experience anyway so what the heck!
Overall, it was a fun experience for Potterheads. It was not something I was blown away with, but it was the first HP-themed cafe I’ve ever dined in and I love that I got to share the experience with my brother. Also, the staff were friendly and you will enjoy taking pictures using their novelty items. If you’re the type of Potterhead who’s got to experience anything HP-related, then go ahead and visit. Otherwise, it’s a decent cafe with a nice atmosphere for regular people who wants to have a nice chat over dinner.
